This year, one of the exhibitors that join us for our upcoming London job fair is Department for Work and Pension – the UK’s largest government department. We’re so excited about them coming over and we’d love you to check out our interview with them!

But before we dig in – remember you can already book your free job seeker ticket for the event here. Don’t miss out!

Who are the creators of your brand? What do they do in life, what are they passionate about

The Department for Work and Pensions’ (DWP) is the UK’s largest government department. Working in DWP Digital offers employees the opportunity to make a real difference to society and to real people’s lives. With innovation and creativity at the core of our culture, we’re transforming the services to make them simpler, clearer and faster to use for over 20 million customers.

What’s the story behind the creation of your company? What inspired you to start your business?

At DWP Digital we design and develop digital services that almost everyone in the UK relies on at some point in their lives.  Using the latest tools and technologies, we’re reimagining our users’ experiences.

What’s your current view on the market you work in? What makes you feel like your brand stands out?

Recruiting for digital roles in government definitely has its challenges, not least because of the outdated preconceptions of working in the Civil Service.  In reality, at DWP Digital you’ll have the opportunity to work with the most modern technology and open source tooling.

We offer career opportunities across the whole spectrum of digital roles, including user research, product management, business analysis, software engineering, DevOps, architecture, and infrastructure engineering.

What’s the thing that you appreciate/value/cherish more about what you do as a brand?

The size and scale of our digital transformation is a challenge, but it’s also a unique opportunity. People enjoy what they do here, as they’re driven by the opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives.

We’re passionate about diversity in the workplace: it’s vital that the UK’s biggest government department reflects the society it serves. It’s also crucial in such a competitive marketplace that we access talent wherever it exists.  We support important days in the diversity calendar and our many networks and forums offer support to colleagues in minority groups and demonstrate our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Do you have a special story of something unique you did for a client? Something unusual you did as a team, something memorable you’d like to share?

What’s your company culture like? What is that you want to represent?

We value ideas and ability and we’re leading the way with agile ways of working.

We offer a culture that values work-life balance with flexibility offered on how and where you work, as well as a competitive salary, pension and generous holiday entitlement.

We believe in our people, which is why you’ll have access to all the learning and development you need – as well as opportunities to learn new skills and progress. You’ll also be part of a professional community, where you can share knowledge with like-minded people and help further your career to where you want it to go.

What is your team like? How do you work?

Multi-disciplinary teams of digital experts work together to deliver and iterate products quickly. To help achieve our vision of creating a world-class practice-led community, we’ve established professional communities for the different job roles within DWP Digital. Everyone has been given the opportunity to align to a community based on their skills and interest. We hope this will create a culture that encourages people to explore their potential rather than be told to do something.

What kind of people are you looking for? Who’s the best match for your team?

Our vacancies span the whole range of digital specialisms, so there’s something to suit everyone. If you’re creative and curious to learn, and aren’t afraid to challenge the norm, you’ll love it here. We’ve already got lots of super-talented people working here so we can guarantee you’ll be working with lots of like-minded digital specialists.

What benefits and perks do you offer your employees? What’s the biggest plus of working for you?

Working at DWP Digital offers the excitement of working on some of the UK’s biggest and most interesting technical challenges, alongside the stability of a Civil Service career.

The unique high-profile work will challenge and develop you, allowing you to enhance your career prospects. Our exciting projects and vibrant culture make it easy to see why we were shortlisted for the Best Place to Work in Digital at the 2018 Computing Digital Technology Leaders awards.

What are your goals and plans for the future? What’s your biggest ambition?

Part of what we’ve achieved at DWP Digital so far is because we don’t want to be average at what we do, we want to be extraordinary.

We have ambitious goals to transform the way we’re delivering our services for millions of people.  We believe this success relies on building motivated teams of talented people.

We now need to continue to improve the services we provide, build closer relationships with our colleagues across the department, and drive through the digitisation of DWP’s services.

And now that you’ve read the interview with them, what do you think? Join us for at our London job fair in February and meet the team of Department for Work and Pension in person! Don’t hesitate to book your free event ticket, check out their blog, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn!
