The British Consulate-General based out of New York City, Danny Lopez, stopped by the South Side offices of the Pittsburgh Business Times to introduce himself and bring a message that his office is open to help Pittsburgh tech companies interested in international expansion.

Specifically, expanding into Britain in order to gain a foothold in Europe.

Lopez highlighted the organic growth ofTech City in East London, where in the span of two years and little government intervention the tech cluster went from five or six companies to 250 companies. The area is currently home to 750 tech companies, he said.

Looking around Pittsburgh he sees a similar story, with a growing, vibrant tech community. Lopez, who is also the top U.K. trade and investment officer here, said he wants his New York team to spend more time in Pittsburgh and understand what connections can be made to British startups and how his office can helpPittsburgh startups move into the British market.
