N26 was founded in 2013 by Valentin Stalf and Maximilian Tayenthal—reimagining the retail banking experience for today’s mobile lifestyle.
Since the initial product launch in 2015, over 1.5 Million customers across 18 European markets have signed up for N26—with plans to enter the US in 2019.
The firm has raised a total of USD 215 million from some of the world’s most well-known investors, including Allianz X, Tencent Holdings Limited, Li Ka-Shing’s Horizons Ventures, Valar Ventures, members of the Zalando Management Team, and Earlybird Venture Capital. N26 employs more than 500 people and has offices in Berlin, New York and Barcelona.
Growth & innovations for the modern world
N26 builds the bank customers love to use. They are growing and maturing so fast, that it requires constant steep growth of our employees. This offers great opportunities in a culture of innovation and disruption. N26 hires people who can tackle the problems they will need to solve tomorrow. People started in roles completely different from where they work today. While, of course, they also hire for experience, to succeed in the organization they need people with a growth mindset, a tremendous drive and resilience.
N26 is in hyper-growth, this means that they are scaling all the organization. They have a strong focus on engineering hiring to support their international and product launches. With their planned growth from 1 Million to 5 million customers in the next two years, the company obviously also focuses on customer-facing roles, like customer and banking operations.
Geographically, they continue to grow their Berlin office, while opening an office in Barcelona last month. The team is very excited about the opportunity to build out a third office, mainly focussed on product and engineering. In parallel, they have just started to seriously scale in the US with an office in NYC.
The culture of success and creativity
If you build a bank from scratch, you need a diverse way of thinking to push beyond boundaries and think outside the ordinary. In order to achieve this, it’s important to have a company culture that embraces the diversity of thought and creates an environment where it’s safe to have a challenging and healthy debate. At N26, having a highly international workplace with around 50 nationalities supports that culture.
What makes N26 even greater as a company to work for, is that they carve out 2 days a month for employees to focus on dream projects or collaborating with other teams to tackle projects they otherwise could not prioritize. They call it “Getting Stuff Done Days.”
Every Wednesday they host company-wide brown bag lunches which are open to anyone who wants to share experiences and ideas on a topic they’re working on. The format is casted globally to all our offices. Obviously supported with delicious foods, lunch in Berlin and Breakfast in NY.
